GPA Conversion & Calculator

What is GPA Conversion?

GPA Conversion is the process of translating academic scores from one grading scale into a Grade Point Average (GPA) on a target scale — most commonly the U.S. 4.0 scale. Because countries and institutions use different grading policies, a reliable conversion system is essential for fair comparison when applying to universities, scholarships, or international programs.

How this tool helps students
  • Instant calculation: Just enter your grades and get accurate GPA results immediately.
  • Error-free results: Avoid manual mistakes with automated conversion logic.
  • Clear comparisons: Convert international scores into the U.S. 4.0 scale for admissions.
  • Academic planning: Estimate future GPA goals to plan coursework effectively.
  • Application-ready outputs: Standardized results for scholarships and programs.
How the conversion tool works
  • U.S. letter grades (A, B+, C-, etc.) are mapped using standard point values (A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3).
  • Percent-based grades (0–100) convert using commonly recognized U.S. cutoff ranges.
  • International systems such as 0–10, 0–100, and ECTS are mapped to equivalent U.S. performance bands.
  • Weighted courses (AP/Honors/IB) optionally add 0.5–1.0 GPA points depending on the institution.
  • Final GPA is calculated using: (grade points × credits) ÷ total credits.

Note: Results are for guidance only. Colleges may recalculate GPA using their own internal formulas.

What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?

GPA is typically per-term or cumulative for a program; CGPA (Cumulative GPA) is the aggregated GPA across all terms.

What is a passing GPA in the U.S.?

Many schools use 2.0 as passing, but this varies by institution and program.

How does GPA show up on a transcript?

Transcripts list course grades, credits, and may include term GPA and cumulative GPA; schools may also show weighted GPA.

What is considered a low GPA?

Generally under 2.0 is considered low; under 3.0 may be less competitive for selective colleges.

Is GPA the same in high school and college?

The scale is similar, but policies (weighting, repeat rules) vary between high schools and colleges.

How accurate are online GPA calculators?

They provide estimates. For official conversions use credential-evaluation services or university-specific policies.

Can international students use U.S. GPA for visa or applications?

U.S. GPA estimates help in applications; visa processes focus on admission outcomes rather than GPA conversion itself.
